Partnership overview
With our partner Sicirec, cocoa farmers are shifting from monocrops to diverse agroforestry systems that protect soil, biodiversity, and livelihoods. We visited cocoa farmers in Bolivia who have transitioned from monocrops like rice to diverse crops including cocoa through agroforestry, supported by our partner Sicirec. By integrating cocoa and timber trees with diverse plant life, farmers prevent soil exhaustion, reduce land clearing, and lower the risk of forest fires.
Project Overview
In 2024, we visited cocoa farms in Bolivia for the first time, working closely with farmers and Sicirec to understand their livelihoods, farming practices, and challenges. Based on these insights, we designed a focused microproject aimed at creating the greatest possible value for farmers. We then returned to the region to implement and complete this project.
Project Outcome
This microproject resulted in a direct sourcing partnership through Sicirec, with cocoa from these farms becoming part of our supply chain. Beyond sourcing, the project established a long-term collaboration and a clear framework for future microprojects, allowing us to continue creating value at origin while building resilient, transparent supply relationships
